GENERAL HISTORY The year after the birth of Eddie's sister Holly, his wizard father left to marry a witch, leaving Eddie as the only magical member of his family. He saw his Dad only once or twice while growing up, but he was happy with his mother and sister. He knew of his magical blood - or rather, he had heard the stories that his mother told him and there had been a few odd occurrences that made him ponder - but he didn't actually know that he was a wizard until his Hogwarts letter came. As soon as he got his books for first year, he studied them intently and when he arrived at Hogwarts, he was sorted into Ravenclaw.
He was always painfully socially awkward, never really getting close to any friends, but he did well in classes and occasionally took advantage of his own intelligence (such as putting down the nine 'O's in his OWLs to a fake 'brain elixir', which he then sold to younger students who were stressing about exams). But the year after he graduated, the 'year of darkness', in order to protect his family he hid them away, and they stayed safe, out of the way of trouble, until Voldemort was defeated. Eddie wrote a little piece on the defeat and distributed it to local magical folk, and when people responded well to it, he sent it to the Daily Prophet. They didn't publish it, but they did hire him, and he is now a well-known columnist. He is not comfortable with this.
